ASEAN needs more than an ‘outlook’ on the Indo-Pacific (East Asia Forum)

ASEAN released its ‘Outlook on the Indo-Pacific’ during the grouping’s late June annual summit. The document represents the grouping’s reaction to efforts by the United States, Australia, India and Japan to link their interests in the Pacific and Indian Oceans. It acknowledges from the outset that ASEAN members sit astride the two regions and developments in either invariably affect them.
