Pakistan’s civil–military imbalance is misunderstood (Hussain Nadim, East Asia Forum)

The Lowy Institute’s 2018 Asia Power Index ranks Pakistan as the most politically unstable out of the 25 Asian countries that it measures. Meanwhile, it measures Pakistan’s military as the seventh-most powerful in Asia. The rankings make sense given that Pakistan has witnessed numerous successful and attempted military coups in the past 70 years since its independence from India.
