The rapid spread of COVID-19 is posing unprecedented challenges and uncertainty around the world. As a result, our way of life and doing business are changing. Yet, once beyond the pandemic, the ocean will be one of our greatest allies in economic recovery, food security, jobs and the battle against climate change.
This opening session will set the scene and ambitions for the week’s programme, highlighting the importance of a healthy and resilient ocean for humanity to thrive, and how the ocean is at the forefront of the recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. The ocean can offer critical solutions to overcome current and future challenges, and help building a more resilient world that is better prepared to face future crises.
